As a 7th Degree Black Belt, Master Lockett has worked with students from all over the world, from complete beginners to world class athletes. Master Lockett is a former classroom teacher and holds a master’s degree in education. At United States Taekwondo, it is our mission to build confident people through martial arts. Thank you for visiting the USTKD website and we hope to see you soon!

Instructor/Owner Master James Lockett

James Lockett

Martial artists throw the title “master” around a lot but United States Taekwondo has a real master instructor. USTKD is the only martial arts school in the Buda area whose Master Instructor also has a Masters Degree in Education. James Lockett brings the rare combination of 10-years of teaching in the school system with 20-years of teaching taekwondo.

Why Choose United States Taekwondo?

Gain Self-Descipline

Self-discipline is the ability to control one’s feelings and overcome one’s weaknesses. Students learn to master their emotions so that they can apply themselves to whatever goal they seek to achieve. Students develop discipline on the mat by learning to give full effort even when they are tired, and continuing to work on a technique even when it is difficult. The development of self-discipline also improves the students’ ability to focus. This is learned by the routines in place in the Taekwondo school, such as standing at attention, looking at instructors or classmates while they are talking to you, and following directions. Students learn how to apply these lessons in all areas of their life. This allows students to accomplish tasks at school or at work, drastically improving the chance for success.

Build Self-Confidence

Henry Ford famously said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.” Confidence in oneself is potentially the most important ability a person can develop. Our program is structured so that students are able to quickly experience success on short term goals. These early successes begin to build confidence so that students are able to go after higher and higher goals with enthusiasm, knowing that they need only to follow a plan in order to achieve them. Added to this is the inherent confidence one attains when they acquire the ability to protect oneself.

LISTEN TO WHAT OUR HAPPY PARENTS ARE SAYING

  • My son has been in Taekwondo for 7 years. He is very serious about his Taekwondo and represents the attitude of a black belt. He is working on his second degree black belt. We went to every Taekwondo school in the Austin area. My son picked The United States Taekwondo school as the school he wanted to work on his second degree black belt. His Master is experienced and also taught in Korean. He is very knowledgeable about Taekwondo. I recommend the school to anyone who wants a really good instructor for Taekwondo. This school is also very affordable.

  • The positive changes I’ve seen in both my girls are their strength and flexibility. They have more self-control and discipline.

It has given them the confidence to defend themselves and the self-esteem to succeed. The girls’ confidence is through the roof!

  • Great instructor with a lot of experience. My kid loves the classes.
