Instructor/Owner Master James Lockett
Martial artists throw the title “master” around a lot but United States Taekwondo has a real master instructor. USTKD is the only martial arts school in the Buda area whose Master Instructor also has a Masters Degree in Education. James Lockett brings the rare combination of 10-years of teaching in the school system with 20-years of teaching taekwondo.
Why Choose United States Taekwondo?
Self-discipline is the ability to control one’s feelings and overcome one’s weaknesses. Students learn to master their emotions so that they can apply themselves to whatever goal they seek to achieve. Students develop discipline on the mat by learning to give full effort even when they are tired, and continuing to work on a technique even when it is difficult. The development of self-discipline also improves the students’ ability to focus. This is learned by the routines in place in the Taekwondo school, such as standing at attention, looking at instructors or classmates while they are talking to you, and following directions. Students learn how to apply these lessons in all areas of their life. This allows students to accomplish tasks at school or at work, drastically improving the chance for success.
Henry Ford famously said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.” Confidence in oneself is potentially the most important ability a person can develop. Our program is structured so that students are able to quickly experience success on short term goals. These early successes begin to build confidence so that students are able to go after higher and higher goals with enthusiasm, knowing that they need only to follow a plan in order to achieve them. Added to this is the inherent confidence one attains when they acquire the ability to protect oneself.

Great instructor with a lot of experience. My kid loves the classes.
Mr. Lockett is a natural teacher. He is very good at what he does, and really, really wants everyone else to get it too. He was a guest instructor at the Mobile Arc Martial Arts Club, teaching people with developmental disabilities, and many years later we still benefit from his insight
